Are Mosaic Backsplashes Better Than Regular Tile Backsplashes?
(5 min read) I’d like to think that mosaic backsplashes never left the scene when it comes to popular kitchen solutions, but designers and bloggers seem to looove saying that they are making a comeback. While some rise in the popularity of mosaic backsplashes is certainly visible, it is important to note that they were always one of the very best design solutions for both kitchens and bathrooms.

There are huge varieties of tiles in the current market, one could even say that the market is oversaturated with tile options. Choosing just one can be a hard nut to crack. That is probably one of the main reasons why people go for mosaic tiles for their backsplashes.

Regardless of the tiles you chose for the rest of your kitchen or bathroom, a mosaic backsplash can feed that hunger for variety every single one of us has. If you were indecisive when you chose your tiles, mosaic backsplash will solve your issues as it will be an additional anchor for your design wishes.

Aside from allowing your imagination to run wild, mosaic tiles will look intricate and beautiful even if you decide to do just one color, one pattern mosaic tile backsplash. The sheer size and shape of mosaic tiles will always make them appear like there’s something more to them than regular-sized tiles. So whether you decide to go for some amazing scenery or colorful depiction on your mosaic tile backsplash, or just a monochromatic look, you can be certain that your backsplash will never seem boring.

Mosaic tile backsplash is easier to clean and you don’t have to clean it as often as a regular tile backsplash. Regular-sized tiles usually have to be double cleaned to get that shiny polished look without any drop-marks visible, simply because they are easier to spot on one single tile than on a variety of tiny tiles. Furthermore, grout joints between regular tiles are much harder to clean, as they are prone to discoloration and staining and they are much more visible than those between mosaic tiles.

Mosaic tiles are also more durable than regular ones, simply because a smaller tile brick is harder to chip than the larger one. Even if it happens your mosaic backsplash gets chopped, mosaic tiles are easy to replace, so you needn’t worry. With regular tiles, on the other hand, there is always a chance you won’t be able to find the right shade or design, so you might end up with a very noticeable mismatched tile.

Mosaic backsplashes are something up to an individual’s taste and preference. But a detail that is rich and represents a part of you would do a place good!

I do love mosaics most of the time, I feel like sometimes they’re too busy though. I like the ones that are made into a shape.
There are some gorgeous pieces here, I really like the one with the flower and the butterflies.
We have a short backsplash in our kitchen, and I would definitely enjoy a larger tile backsplash. It would be nicer to the eye and easier to clean compared to painted drywall.
This was such a great help and it gave me ideas as to what tiles to choose for my kitchen or bathroom. Thank you

I totally agree with you. Mosaic tile backsplash has lower maintenance since you don’t need to clean it as often as the regular tile backsplash and this is enough reason for me to say they’re better.
Not to mention all the design possibilities. It’s just endless.
I really love the images of mosaics installed in the bathroom–especially in the shower! I like the sunflower design also.
