Why art accents matter so much in your home
(4 min read) For a long time, art accents were considered an item reserved for the noble-folks; a luxury home art accent that only the most affluent and opulent could adorn their homes with. However, times are changing, and a gorgeous array and versatility of modern wall décor are readily available to hang proudly in our homes.
From replicas of our favourite famous artists’ masterpieces to unique bespoke artwork found at a market, to our very own paintings, mosaic art, and sculptures. We live in a wonderful time where beautiful and unique art is accessible and affordable to all.
But what if I told you art wasn’t just a pretty thing to spruce up your mantelpiece? Here are some amazing reasons that artwork in your home is so much more.

1. Art is not only aesthetically pleasing but deeply meaningful
Art enriches our homes with mood, culture and helps in educating our children. In a micro-second, we can be transported to other worlds, see life through the eyes of the painter or subject, and experience beauty and emotion in its rawest form. Artwork means a lot to us, that is why it has never gone out of style, we, quite often, can feel so much more from an artwork than a photograph.

2. Art is accessible to all!
Whether you are 3, 33 or 103, you can gaze at a picture and deem your own meaning from it; you don’t need to be able to read to perceive the stories art tells. Whether the colours lift your mood, the scene reminds you of a wonderful memory in your youth or inspires you to get creative yourself, art is a universal indicator that we see, feel and share.

3. Art is a conversation starter
Screen time, busy work/school schedules and isolation are all too common in our modern lives, and families often feel they don’t get enough time together to genuinely connect. Home art accents are a great way to encourage people’s eyes away from the TV or phone, and towards something that feeds the soul. Discussions are inspired by the artwork, whether they are about the origin of the artwork, the way we perceive its meaning or simply what colours we like. It gets us talking.

4. Artwork makes memories
We all remember that one particular painting or mosaic from our childhood home when we see it again in later life; a host of memories are relayed back to us. As humans, we are very visually stimulated; so filling our homes with artworks encourage emotions and memories that can be enjoyed every day. Did I mention artworks are great for children brain development too?

5. Art boosts creativity and health!
Having artworks around us fills negative spaces with texture and colour, making our rooms so much more interesting and vivacious. Surrounding ourselves with artworks that we love inspires us to be creative ourselves and keeps our minds in tune with the arty side of life. Try creating your very own artwork to hang on the walls for a truly personal home; every day will be like your very own gallery exhibit! Creativity is literally good for us; according to RiteAid; “creative pursuits help to build connections in the brain to strengthen cognitive reserve or brain resilience, and subsequently prevent memory loss. Creating artworks can also improve fine motor skills through small, purposeful movements, which may help to prevent pain and stiffness”.
A painting a day keeps the doctor away!

An artwork is certainly not just a pretty face; it has an invaluable place in any home; boosting creativity, making memories and filling our spaces with true soul food. Remember this when you next go shopping or even consider making your own family painting and customized mosaic!

With two young kids, most of the artwork in my house comes from them! We have a few strings on the wall and clips like in one of your photos for the boys to hand schoolwork on. Anything else is photographs, just like my parents had when I was growing up.
It is exactly like one of the pictures in the articles, what an amazing idea to bring to life our kids’ artwork.
I’ve always been a big lover of art in the home. Art can drastically change the feel of a space.
Yes it does and I love the vibes it adds to the living space. Thank you Stacie for your comment.

I love to have arts in my home and have few paintings of Monet and Van Gogh at home, of course, there are imitation. Please still very nice to be seen around.
I love Van Gogh a lot, he is one of my absolute fav. Imitations or not, I think wall art is great.
Art accents give a very unique feeling to a home. Great that time is changing and modern wall decor is available to more people.
Yes absolutely!!! I think art shouldn’t be exclusive, i am glad we both agree on that.
I agree art is accessible to all. Growing up my family home was always decorated in pictures of us. We had a few pics that I considered art and I was always drawn to the meaning or perception of it. Bright colors gave me the idea the artist was energetic and full of life. I still to this day love art. The more creative, the more in tune I am with it.
Same Same…I grew up in an artsy house and art was my go to every time I wanted inspiration. Thanks a lot for your comment.
I’ve always believed that art accents at home are really essential. Not just to add beauty but also to add relaxing ambiance, too. They simply look wonderful!
They actually do and they make the entire difference to a living space. Thanks a lot for your comment.

Yes I love hanging wall arts in our house too but more like family-kids styles. These are gorgeous by the way.
Family and kids styles are definitely work. They’re awesome.
You are correct. Art is something which brings out the creativity and skill of an artist. Our houses should uphold that too.
I am so happy you agree Kuntala. Thanks for your comment.
I love art accents and I have some unique pieces that I bought from my home country Haiti.
I am so lucky that I grew up in a house with parents that loved and appreciated art. I truly can’t imagine my home (or my life) without it!
I feel the same way Christa, Art means so much to me, so much and I can’t imagine my life without it.
Art brings a whole other dimension to the space, creating textures and lines that wasnt there prior
I love that you have given so many positive attributes to art in the home. I think a space looks lost if art isn’t included somewhere.
I can’t agree more with you Rosey, if i can fill every possible living space with art i would.

My folks love collecting pieces of art from their travels and alway try and invest in local painters. They just need more wall space!
I definitely love having some art to look at in my home when I need some creativity. So important! And it looks gorgeous.
Blank walls are, well, only blank walls. But to really give life to a space, you have to consider turning a wall into a gallery. Walls as a gallery are a great way to showcase an art collection while creating a beautiful focal point in a space. Nice blog post
I can’t tolerate a house that has no art. It feels empty.
Art is so important to have in your home. It’s a great way to bring in character and to express yourself!
Now that my kids are all grown up I need to find a new source for art work. I’m going to have to check out some local shows for sure.
Totally agree, art does add a positive vibe to our home! I love decorating my rooms with aesthetic art pieces . Great post ☺
Oh, that’s so calm art. Really mind-blowing. Among the rest, second one looks very beautiful to me.
I come from a home which is full of art as my dad owned a gallery – my home has a few pieces but is mostly filled with photos
I love this post! It has really made me consider trying to add some much needed art accents
Art accents really do make all the difference. I can’t wait to buy our home so I can decorate it!
Art makes the apartment I totally agree. My friend works in renting industry and she likes telling a story how one hanged print allowed her to rent the apartment she couldn’t find a person for months and also even make the renting fee 10% bigger. I am not sure if it actually was art what helped but I am sure art makes the room more complete
It’s amazing how much creativity and vision goes into decorating a room and a home. I love your feature on art!
Thanks for the art education. here. Great post
I think it makes so much of a different feel about a home when art is incorporated.
art in my opinion makes or breaks the space ! love the fantastic examples you have used as well
I wish I had more time and money to be able to add more art to my home. The few pieces I have are leftovers from the hubby. My art is more basic and artistic and not traditional art
And now i’d love to redo my home interiors and add nice art accents to it. Such a lovely read and thanks for the inspiration.
This made me love arts more! Aside from aesthetics and serves as a hobby, doing arts really improves our health!

I love art! With that being said, you would think I would have more art on my walls. It is the difference between a house and a home. Thanks for the inspiration!
