The Importance of Mosaic Art
(4 min read) Believe it or not, this is one of the questions that seems to be asked ever so often, or at least that’s what the search engine says. Needless to say, I am astounded by the overall rudeness of it, but I guess that the fact that it is typed in the search bar and not spoken out loud makes it less abrasive somehow.
First of all, every art form carries certain importance with it, because it speaks about the state of mind and creativity of the people that lived during that time. Every art form enables you to learn something new. Every art form is a gift of knowledge and inspiration in its own right.
Mosaic artwork, depending on the material used, is undoubtedly the most long-lasting artwork in the world. Thanks to mosaic art we’ve been able to learn many new things about past civilizations. We’ve learned a lot about their religions, daily routines, attitude toward flora and fauna, and numerous other things we wouldn’t know without mosaic art. On that note, the historical value and importance of mosaic artwork are immense.
Art therapy has been around for many decades helping people cope with some huge issues like grief, mental illness, insecurity, and more. Aside from helping them heal, art therapy also helped people discover their creative streak, grow their social circle, and find value within both themselves and others.
One of the starting points of art therapy is often mosaic art, as it is the perfect gateway medium for people to seamlessly channel their creativity. Once that flood of creativity starts it helps people with opening up, dealing with stress, as well as get that gratifying feeling of self-accomplishment.
Drawing, painting, dancing, writing, and singing are all great, but compared to handling actual objects, all of the mentioned artistic expressions are abstract. Once you start sorting a pile of colorful tesserae you are able to feel their weight and shape, which makes it much more “real”.
Once again, we are back on the durability feature, because people have been using mosaic to send strong messages to the public, support movements, and voice their opinions. Once you’ve created a mosaic on the street or on the side of a building you can be sure it’ll stay there for a long time. Unlike murals or graffiti, mosaic art is virtually indestructible.
Last but not least, mosaic artwork is especially important today. Turn on the news or drive down the street and look at the gas prices, check out the trending page on Twitter and Facebook. The budget of every average person is probably already between a rock and a hard place, so if you are about to do any kind of investment in your home keep in mind that the energy prices are at an all-time high at the moment. you are probably wondering how this is connected to mosaic art, so let me explain…
Mosaic tiles are the single most practical and most cost-effective way to insulate and decorate your home at the same time. Glass mosaic tiles are well known for their slow transmission rate of energy. That basically means that mosaic glass tiles will absorb energy throughout the day and then slowly transmit heat during the night. That makes mosaic tiles in general, but glass mosaic tiles in particular, the best natural solution for homes all over the world.
These are just some of the facts that make mosaic art important. Mosaic art combines timeless beauty and masterful artistry with sustainability and strength. it is an amalgam of all of those things and many more, which makes it one of the most important artistic expressions in the history of mankind.
