How Interior Colors Can Be Used To Create a Mood In Your Home
(3 min read) Colors are known to be an important part of creating a mood within a space and for good reason! Not only does incorporating colors into your home look great…They actually have a subconscious effect on the brain.

Human brains have evolved to associate deeply with color, we are subconsciously affected by it whether we like it or not. So, knowing this; what interior colors can we use to create an intentional mood within our homes and spaces? Read on to find out.

Blue
Blue has been scientifically proven in studies to lower our heart rates, an Australian study in 2015 proved that exposure to blue light lowered participant’s blood pressure. People often report feeling calm, centered, awake, and less impulsive when surrounded by blue decor. This is because blue and green light is hardwired to be recognized as daylight by our brain. If you want a relaxing and airy space that helps you to maintain focus, try incorporating blue walls in your study, or blue mosaic bathroom flooring to help you rejuvenate and unwind after your day.
Light and pastel blues can feel quite cold if you want a warmer, cozier feel; opt for warmer shades such as turquoise.

Yellow
Yellow catches the sunlight and brightens your home, reminding us of happiness-inducing sunshine and fresh fruit, yellow can be particularly useful to those who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder (or S.A.D ) during the winter months as it reminds us of sunnier days until they bless us again in spring! Yellow is also linked to energy and vitality, so can be used to give you a lift if you feel lethargic. Try incorporating yellow to invigorate the mood of your kitchen with a custom mosaic backsplash or wall motif, and add yellow flowers to rooms that could use a boost of energy.

Green
Green is associated with prosperity and nature; like blue, it provides a calming effect whilst lowering the heart rate by simulating daylight. Green is thought to be the most natural color to the eye and encourages composure, clarity and restores the mind. If you are a nature lover; consider adding an earthy vibe to your living room with lush plants, mossy green walls or natural contemporary wall art.

Orange
Orange is an exciting color associated with creativity and energy. If you require some enthusiasm in your home, try infusing it with some zesty orange statement décor. Be mindful that because of its energetic nature, orange doesn’t make a good bedroom color, so stick to living rooms, kitchens, and office spaces.

Now that you know the way colors affect our brain, why not infuse your home with intentional hues and shades to proliferate the emotions you want more of! Cool right?

This was an interesting read. I am a creative person and, funnily enough, my living room has a lot of orange elements in it. It is the room where I do most of my work from.
Definitely keeping this in mind when decorating the little one’s room! Really digging that yellow motif too
I need to include more orange as it is an exciting color associated with creativity and energy.
I think one of my favorite parts of moving is the ability and chance to create a new style in my home. I think that’s probably why I enjoy moving so often. These room themes are GORGEOUS and only make me that much more excited to move into my new place!
You have some lovely photos that show what can be done with color to create a mood. I love how many ways one can create a welcoming mood with different colors.
I have always loved earth tones and have mostly greens and browns in my home. With, the occasional pop of yellow. I am currently crazy about anything with sunflowers on it. Now I know why. They have all the colors that make me feel relaxed and happy.
It’s great to see how interior colors can change our mood. Mixing different colors looks great and it can enhance the positive feelings of a room.
I just love all of these rooms. I am all about bright colors. I want to re-do our living area with bold colors at some point.
Having a graphics design background, I’ve studied a lot about color. It’s amazing how much it can affect you in so many subtle ways. Everything from the colors in your home (as you mentioned) to the color of an advertisement will evoke specific emotions in people.
Those colors are so bright and vibrant. Would love to turn a room in my home to something so fab – unfortunately grubby toddler hands makes it hard right now!
I love the blue ceiling that is so beautiful. I know what colors I want to paint my future home and I am so looking forward to getting a chance to do that!
Stunning pictures. I love the blue bathtub , WOW!
It can also give that specific character of the house and the character of the person who owns the room. These are all cool and great ideas.
I just LOVE bold colors – but just one next to pale and simple colors. So like a BRIGHT cobalt blue with whites and greys!
Oh I love! I adore the greens and natural colours!
My bedroom is a light purple & I love it (purple is my favorite color). One bathroom is green (not ideal for selfies because of the lighting) and my kitchen is yellow. I love having color throughout the house!
It is really true that with a bit of originality, elegance and good taste you can really change the face of your home! Great!
I agree colors can lift our mood and it is also a great backdrop for picture shooting.
These are all awesome! Especially the green. It looks refreshing in the eyes.
I do love colour in my home and elements of bright colours do cheer me up . I do have colorful corners in my house and subtle ones so depending on my mood I choose where to settle for that moment. Great article, I did enjoy reading it .
I love adding a bit of color to each room, to set the mood! These mosaics are beautiful!
I love bold colors in the interior. I think every room needs something to make it ‘pop’ and bold colors (when used correctly) always do the trick.
I love the pics. My faves are the blue ones. The yellow is a bit extreme for me but I can see why people would love it.
I love the design and vibrant colours in these pics. It makes the room really pop

I totally believe yellows and greens uplift thw moods. They are such lively colours ?
I never thought about how the colors I use create a specific mood. I use a lot of blue, grey and green because that is what I gravitate towards. I do think I need some more color, like the orange you mentioned to energize the place up a little! I wonder if pink has a similar effect as the orange?
Pink would have a similar effect I think, I personally prefer orange but you might wanna try pink and see how it goes with the other colors.
I absolutely love the way the space is filled with color. It always brightens up a room.
Beautiful colours. When we first moved into our house, it was completely black and white. I placed some lovely orange tiles to brighten up the place. I definitely feel it gives the place some more energy.
I was smiling as I was reading your post. This morning, we had an orange accent wall in the living room. So you know I am calling the energy in my house.
I love learning about the psychology of colors. I’ve always gravitated towards blues. I guess I crave the calm. ?

I love all of these bold colours! I have been trying to go back to basics at home with whites and greys , but a splash of colour seems like a wild idea!
I love all these colours. I really want to add some colours to my home but I am still not sure which colour to choose. Yellow is one of my fave colours and I love the pictures with yellow in it but i am not sure if i’ll get the same effect as the one in the pictures.
I have heard colors affect us too. I know orange makes you hungry. White makes me happy for some reason, although I am starting to enjoy soft colors a little more too.
Colour is so important in the home isn’t it… it can really change the feel of a place! I love having neutral colours on the walls and then using lots of pops of colour in the soft furnishings!
Choosing colours is actually one of the hardest things we had to decide on when we had our home redecorated last year. This is a great reference!

Loved the green and yellow the most then the blue because they are all very relaxing.
