Italy’s Ravenna: The City of Mosaics
Most people have never heard of the Italian beauty lying between Venice and Florence known as Ravenna or simply put – The city of mosaics. Being a proud possessor of 8 UNESCO world heritage sites, Ravenna is home to many impressive Byzantine mosaic artworks. At the top of the list, there is the early depiction of Christ located in Mausoleum of Galla Placid and the beautiful procession of the 22 Virgins at the Basilica of Sant’ Apollinare Nuovo just to name a few must see.

The stairs in Rio, the City of Mosaics in Italy….. the subways of New York! I love it! I am a little ashamed. I grew up in New York and I didn’t appreciate the subways. Going to and from school wasn’t the best ride, especially during cold, cold winter and hot, hot summer. I wish I could turn back to appreciate the beauty in NY that I didn’t appreciate back then.
They’re all so beautiful! I’m dying to get to Iran, and Uzbekistan is meant to have some amazing mosaic buildings as well. I wish my whole house could be decorated this way! X-D

These are great examples! I was surprised not to see Portugal in your list, aren’t “azulejos” consider a kind of mosaic?
There is a lot of amazing “mosaic” destinations (Turkey, Russia, Portugal, Greece, etc..) that we kept for part 2 of the article, we were concerned the post would be too long if we were to include all destinations.
