5 ways to cheer yourself up with interior decor
(5 min read) Few times throughout human history has raised the spirits of humanity been so needed as it is today in this modern-day and age. As if technology hasn’t alienated us enough, now we have to isolate ourselves from the rest of society and stare at the screen hoping someone will understand. Well…we do understand.

The important thing is to remember that you are not alone. We are all in the same hot sauce. Some are alone and eager surrounded by books and background noise made by YouTube and TikTok; some are surrounded by family members, fighting with their cousins over mundane things; some are lying in their beds staring at the ceiling contemplating space and time quantum physics. Abd all of us have one thing in common — we are sick and tired of staying inside, but we can’t do anything about it. Or can’t we?…

Hm. So what if we bring the outside inside? What if some simple changes can contribute to bettering our mindset? Let’s do it together! Let’s try and elevate the boring old space that you’ve grown sick and tired of. And before you start talking about your budget, let me just add this note — let’s do it without spending a ton of cash. Let’s do it cheaply, but with style. Uh-huh. It is possible. Follow me…

1. Color
No, you don’t have to go all out and paint your walls and change your dark wooden furniture. Add a colorful graffiti print to your accent wall, regardless of how out-of-character it may seem for you. Throw some fuchsia and lime-green colored pillows on your boring ole couch, or some bright yellow tablecloths on your coffee table. Take a can of shiny golden paint and throw it down your hallway. I’m joking. But do it, if it’ll make you happy. Sometimes scrubbing paint and doing some permanent damage will make you feel alive.

2. Walls
We’ve already mentioned the graffiti thingy, but if it’s not your thingy, pay a visit to your local photoshop. They can do some amazing print-outs of your favorite inspirational quotes, movie posters, or bookish artworks. Plaster your walls with what makes you feel good. If it a cheesy #yolo done in rainbow style or a pic of Homer Simpson talking about bacon, who are we to judge? As long as it makes you happy….

3. Plants
I’ve recently added a dracaena plant next to my bookshelves and it was such a bingo for me. I was like: “yasss, queen, slay with their spiky green leaves, looking all sunny and pun-rock”. You have to try it. Just pick a plant, a nice terracotta pot, and voila! You’ve got yourself a small oasis.

4. Aromas
Yes, your space shouldn’t be just visual enjoyment. It should also be a heaven for the rest of your senses, and your sense of smell is one of the key players here. Go for different smells you love for each room to make unique and give it its own dynamic. Place a lemon oil dispenser in your living room, some pretty lavender candles in your home office, or some jasmine-scented aromatic cushions all over your bedroom.

5. Lights
Light up your space! Make sure that all of the darkest corners of your home are illuminated. Add some interesting table lamps here and there, put some tall floor lamps in the corners of your living room, or change your simple ceiling light fixture for a glorious bamboo chandelier. Just add some lights and watch your space transform itself.

BONUS TIP:
Don’t forget to make sure YOU are happy. Your space should make you happy. Who cares what your next-door neighbor or some interior designer says? You do you.
