Romantic mosaics to get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day ❤️

(4 min read) Whether the idea of Valentine’s Day fills you with warm and fuzzy feelings or downright annoys you, it’s always the right time to admire some on-topic mosaic art; if you read this far, you know why you’re here ;).

The loved-up celebration originates from ancient Roman times when Emperor Claudius II forbade marriage as he believed that married men made for bad soldiers; Priest Valentine thought this was ludicrous, and so performed marriages in secret. When these incognito marriages were uncovered, Valentine was sentenced to death and put in jail. During his time in prison, Valentine fell in love with his jailer’s daughter, and on the day of his execution; the 14th February, he wrote her a love letter signed; “From your Valentine” and the rest is history…
